Interview with Alain Briancon (VP Data Science & Engineering, Cerebri AI) - Speaker at Global Data Science Conference April 2018 Posted on : Mar 13 - 2018

We feature speakers at Global Data Science Conference - April 2 - 4 2018 - Santaclara - CA to catch up and find out what he or she is working on now and what's coming next. This week we're talking to Alain Briancon (VP Data Science & Engineering, Cerebri AI) Topic - "Consumer's Journey Centric Machine Learning & Application To Next Best Action Engagement"

Interview with Alain Briancon

1. Tell us about yourself and your background.

I am an engineer by training (MIT PhD) and avid history and movie buff. I am a serial inventor (230+ patents worldwide) who loves being at the cutting edge of technology of business. I did a lot of work in wireless and mobile both working for OEMs and operators, advanced work on 4G and IoT, then caught the startup bug. Cerebri is my fifth startup, the fourth one where Data Science and AI are key components.

2.  What have you been working on recently?

My team and I have been finishing the validation of the cerebri value as with key customers and rushing to integrate with our product, a SAAS offering that allows Fortune 500 companies to design the Next Best Action to transact with customers based on their interaction with their brands.

We have been validating that with automotive and bank customers.

3. Tell me about the right tool you used recently to solve customer problem?

We are developing Cerebri Science that implements our methodology that measures consumer affinity for brands and modes of engagement. So we use mostly for solve customer challenges. Cerebri Science (and our mobile app for businesses, Cerebri Scout) run on Azure.  For visualization, we rely on Power-BI.

4. Where are we now today in terms of the state of Data Science, and where do you think we’ll go over the next five years?

We are going though a massive commodization of the machine learning algorithms for structured data and processes. The future battle is about unstructured data and influence graphs.

5. You’ve already hired Y number of  people approximately. What would be your pitch to folks out there to join your Organization? Why does your organization matter in the world?

Let me try to answer without revealing the magic sauce. 1) the company is lead by serial entrepreneurs with a fair amount of “been there, done that with success” 2) we push the envelope of thinking. Where else will your have statisticians, rocket scientists, quantum chemistry PhD, and astrophysics jump into Machine Learning designs? 3) we have strong backers. —- Most importantly, we are solving the most impactful problem a company can have. When, what, and how to I convince Maria Smith to buy my stuff? And John Barrow? And Iris Marget... faster, better, cheaper than traditional methods.

6. What are some of the best takeaways that the attendees can have from your talk?

The way forward is building effective products, services, and marketing from the bottom up, from the individual up.

Creating marketing campaigns from the bottom up is powerful.

Creating cohorts of consumers from the bottom up is better than segmentation of consumers from the top down.

The marketing that works for one consumer can be disastrous for another. We have a way to tell brands who will like and who will not. At the individual level.

7. What are the top 5 Data Science Use cases in enterprises?

Get customers

Retain customers

Design products

Speed up designs

Something a 20 year old is thinking about now and i can’t think about yet.

8. Which company do you think is winning the global Data science race?

There will be a few big winners. The winners will be those who build things around the individuals. Data Science is not about big data, it is about individuals and unique experiences.  Needless to say, Cerebri will be one of the winners... along with our customers. They matter most.
