Interview with Sourabh Bajaj, Software Engineer, Google Brain - Speaker at Global Artificial Intelligence Conference April 2018 Posted on : Apr 20 - 2018

We feature speakers at Global Artificial Intelligence Conference - April 27 - 29 2018 – Seattle to catch up and find out what he or she is working on now and what's coming next. This week we're talking to Sourabh Bajaj (Software Engineer, Google Brain) Topic - "Recent Advances In Deep Learning And Tensorflow"

Interview with Sourabh Bajaj

1. Tell us about yourself and your background.

Sourabh is a software engineer at Google Brain. He is interested in Machine Learning and Data Infrastructure. At Google he works on Tensorflow. Prior to that, he was part of the Data Science team at Coursera working on everything from Recommendation System to Data warehousing. To know more about him visit: http://sourabhbajaj.com/ or follow him on Twitter at @sb2nov

2. What have you been working on recently?

I have been spending most of my time on Tensorflow support for Cloud TPUs.

3. Tell me about the right tool you used recently to solve customer problem?

Tensorflow is used for AI/ML model development and deployment.

4. When you’re hiring, what types of people are you hiring? The job market for traditional programmers, engineers is very difficult to get into AI space. Are you hiring from that talent pool or is that a different talent pool? In terms of talent, how do you go about ensuring you get the best AI people at your company?

On the tensorflow team we look for a combination of distributed systems and machine learning experience. Overall a strong programming track record goes a long way.

5. What can AI systems do now?

We've seen a lot of applications in healthcare, gaming, image understanding etc.

6. You’ve already hired Y number of people approximately. What would be your pitch to folks out there to join your Organization? Why does your organization matter in the world?

Tensorflow is a popular library for deep learning so working on it helps move the field of machine learning forward.

7. What are some of the best takeaways that the attendees can have from your talk?

Learn about new things that are coming up in Tensorflow that will make training your models easier and faster.

8. What are the top 5 AI Use cases in enterprises?

AI can be applied to various inputs such as Speech, Text, Images, Videos, Healthcare so would be widely used across the spectrum of companies.

9. Which company do you think is winning the global AI race?

I think we're still in the beginning of AI development so there is a long way to go before we can figure this out.

10 Any closing remarks

Looking forward to meeting people interesed in Tensorflow at the talk.
