Deep Learning on Mobile Devices

The talk will cover neural networks (NNs) and deep learning (DL) on mobile devices, including smart phones, watches, drones, and other edge devices. After an introduction, it will discuss current uses available in 2018 and then address issues that require attention in order to make more sophisticated DL widespread in the future. This part will report on new approaches to hardware (ie, processors) and software (eg, shrinking large NN models to fit on small devices). Finally, it will cover future applications of NNs and DL on drones, the Internet of Things (IoTs), and smart cities.

Currently in Transition. Previously was the Founder and President of 21 SP, Inc., a start-up developing mobile software to support genetic-based clinical decision-making in the medical clinic. Before that, held business positions (eg, Finance and Strategic Planning) at Elan Phamaceuticals (previously Athena Neurosciences) and DrugAbuse Sciences. Also, held technical computer programming positions at Hewlett-Packard and Texas Instruments. Holds an MA in Business Economics (UC Santa Barbara), a BS and MS in Management Information Systems (Colorado State University), and has completed one-year’s full-time study in biology and pharmacology (UC Berkeley & UC Santa Cruz).
