Low hanging fruit, making your basic MongoDB installation more secure

Abstract

Your MongoDB Community Edition database can probably be a lot more secure than it is today, since Community Edition provides a wide range of capabilities for securing your system, and you are probably not using them all. This session will provide a set of tools to increase your peace of mind. It will cover user and role management, establishing secure connectivity over TLS, using Read Only Views and more.

Profile

Tom is a software industry and IT services veteran, having been the lead technologist at both consulting and software development companies for over thirty years. As part of the EC Wise senior team, he leads the company’s secure development and secure database implementation practices, which have built products and services for leading business services providers, casinos and other security sensitive industries. In addition to EC Wise, Tom functions as VP of Engineering for Pivot Payables, which captures payables transactions in large MongoDB databases, and as acting CTO of Click Deal Buy!, a startup aiming to revolutionize retail commerce. Over the years, Tom has made presentations at many technical conferences and written for a variety of industry publications. Prior to joining EC Wise in 1999, Tom was CTO at a venture backed Silicon Valley e-commerce startup. When he’s not working (it does happen), Tom gardens and cooks fresh food, and works on food security projects in the bay area. If he’s really lucky, he might find time for a bike ride on a weekend afternoon.
