Analytics as Augmented Human Intelligence

Augmenting human intelligence should be recognized as a central goal of most analytics projects. This awareness can greatly improve our success in building and delivering effective analytics. I will discuss the history of the dashboard in order to illuminate three key types of augmentation and what makes them succeed or fail.

Matthew Baggott, PhD, is the Director of Data Science and Engineering in People Analytics at Genentech. Matthew creates strategic analytics processes that augment individual and collective intelligence. Currently, he is building new, data-driven capabilities in Human Resources in order to help Genentech invent the next generation of medical treatments. Before running analytics teams, Matthew earned a PhD in neuroscience from UC Berkeley, headed a clinical trial analytics group, and conducted experiments on drugs and the mind.
