Elon Musk’s final remaining co-founder has reportedly departed xAI. Posted on : Mar 30 - 2026
Earlier this month, it appeared that all but two of Elon Musk’s 11 co-founders at his AI startup xAI had already left. Now, according to Business Insider, the final two—Manuel Kroiss and Ross Nordeen—have also exited the company.
The outlet reported Wednesday that Kroiss had told others he was stepping away, followed by news that Nordeen left on Friday.
Musk recently said xAI “was not built right the first time,” and is now being “rebuilt from the foundations up.” The company was also acquired by SpaceX, bringing it together with SpaceX and X under one umbrella, as SpaceX reportedly prepares for a public listing.
Both Kroiss and Nordeen reported directly to Musk, per Business Insider. Kroiss led xAI’s pretraining team, while Nordeen served as a key operator. Nordeen previously worked at Tesla and was involved in planning major layoffs at Twitter after Musk’s 2022 acquisition.
