WhatsApp introduces an AI tool that helps users rephrase messages and adjust their tone. Posted on : Aug 28 - 2025
WhatsApp is introducing a new AI-powered feature called “Writing Help,” designed to help users rephrase, proofread, or adjust the tone of their messages, the company announced on Wednesday.

The tool runs on Meta’s Private Processing technology, which ensures that neither Meta nor WhatsApp reads the original message or the AI-generated suggestions, preserving message privacy.

With Writing Help, users can choose AI-generated rewrites in styles such as professional, funny, supportive, or simply rephrased.

To demonstrate, WhatsApp showcased a message reading “Please don’t leave dirty socks on the sofa.” The AI offered humorous alternatives, including:

“Please don’t make the sofa a sock graveyard.”

“Breaking news: Socks found chilling on the couch. Please move them.”

“Hey, sock ninja, the laundry basket is that way!”

The company hopes this new feature will encourage users to rely on WhatsApp’s built-in AI tools rather than external apps like ChatGPT when drafting messages.

Still, not everyone may embrace the change—while AI can polish emails or work chats, many users may prefer authentic, personal wording when messaging close friends or family.

Users can try Writing Help by tapping the new pencil icon that appears while composing a message in the app.
