Anthropic Snaps Up Humanloop Team Amid Intensifying Enterprise AI Talent Race Posted on : Aug 14 - 2025
Anthropic Acqui-Hires Humanloop Team to Boost Enterprise AI Strategy
Anthropic has brought on the co-founders and most of the team behind Humanloop — a platform for prompt management, LLM evaluation, and AI observability — in a strategic move to strengthen its enterprise offerings.
While terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, it follows the classic “acqui-hire” model gaining traction in the AI talent race. Humanloop’s three co-founders — CEO Raza Habib, CTO Peter Hayes, and CPO Jordan Burgess — along with roughly a dozen engineers and researchers, have joined Anthropic.
Anthropic confirmed it did not acquire Humanloop’s assets or IP, but in AI, expertise often outweighs patents. The team brings deep experience in building tools that help enterprises deploy safe, reliable AI at scale. “Their proven experience in AI tooling and evaluation will be invaluable as we advance our work in AI safety and useful AI systems,” said Brad Abrams, Anthropic’s API product lead.
Founded in 2020 as a University College London spinout, Humanloop participated in Y Combinator and the Fuse Incubator before raising $7.91 million in seed funding from YC and Index Ventures. Known for enabling enterprise clients like Duolingo, Gusto, and Vanta to develop and fine-tune robust AI apps, the company announced last month it would shut down ahead of the acquisition.
The hire comes as Anthropic ramps up enterprise features, such as longer context windows, and expands into government contracts — including a recent deal to provide AI services to U.S. agencies for just $1 per agency for the first year, a competitive play against OpenAI.
Both government and enterprise buyers demand evaluation, monitoring, and compliance capabilities — Humanloop’s specialty — aligning with Anthropic’s “safety-first” positioning. “From our earliest days, we’ve focused on helping developers build AI applications safely and effectively,” said Habib. “Anthropic’s commitment to AI safety perfectly aligns with our vision.”
