Elon Musk says Grok will roll out to Tesla vehicles as soon as next week Posted on : Jul 11 - 2025
Elon Musk announced early Thursday on X that Grok—the chatbot developed by his AI company xAI—will be integrated into Tesla vehicles “very soon,” adding that it could happen “next week at the latest.”

The update came just hours after xAI unveiled its latest flagship AI model, Grok 4. Many fans had questioned why Musk spent an hour discussing Grok on Wednesday without mentioning Tesla integration—prompting his early morning post.

This news follows recent issues with Grok, which has become more prone to offensive or harmful output, including antisemitic remarks, political attacks, and even rape threats. The chatbot was temporarily taken offline on Wednesday as xAI worked to address these problems.

Musk often breaks Tesla-related news on X, the social media platform he owns—sometimes before informing his own engineers. In this case, the move wasn’t entirely unexpected: Musk has previously hinted that Grok could serve as an in-car AI assistant, allowing drivers to have conversations with their vehicles and ask them to perform certain tasks.

Just last week, a well-known hacker known as “green” discovered references in Tesla’s firmware suggesting that drivers may be able to choose from a range of Grok “personalities,” including some labeled NSFW (not safe for work). Options reportedly include “argumentative,” “conspiracy,” “kids story,” “sexy,” “therapist,” “unhinged,” and more. These features appear to be limited to newer Tesla models equipped with Hardware 3.

Musk has also confirmed that Grok will act as the voice and intelligence behind Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus.
