GOOGLE EMPLOYEES FILED A PETITION TO STOP THE COLLECTION OF ABORTION DATA Posted on : Sep 13 - 2022
  • More than 650 Google employees have signed a petition requesting that the company make sure that no user health data, including information on abortion, is ever kept or provided to US law enforcement.
  • The petition was submitted after Roe v. Wade was overturned by the US Supreme Court in June 2022, reversing abortion rights by transferring control of abortion laws back to individual US states.
  • On August 18, the Alphabet Workers Union (AWU) filed a petition with the corporation requesting that it enact stricter data privacy controls for all health-related activity, including searches for information on reproductive justice, gender-affirming healthcare, and abortion access.
  • Employees have also demanded that the company correct search results for impostor abortion clinics and stop working with disinformation publishers who spread damaging or false material about abortion in contravention of the tech giant’s advertising guidelines.

650 Google employees signed a petition to ensure that users’ health information, including their abortion data, is never retained or given to US law enforcement.

The petition was filed after Roe v.
