The company will allocate 5% of its shares to the fund, which will operate as a wholly owned entity within Anthropic. It may contribute an additional 2% for every 50% increase in the company’s value.

 

Potential uses include major donations to nonprofit organizations and direct financial support for specific communities. The fund could also address the societal impact of AI, particularly its effects on employment. Anthropic has already committed $200 million to studying AI’s impact on jobs, but says the rapid pace of AI development may require more ambitious solutions.

 

The announcement comes amid growing public concerns about the AI industry and trust in its companies. CEO Dario Amodei has described this as a fundamental crisis of trust.
