TikTok launches an AI shopping assistant and one-click checkout. Posted on : Oct 06 - 2026

TikTok is expanding its e-commerce capabilities with a new AI shopping assistant and an in-app checkout feature that allows users to purchase products directly from brands.

The new Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent designed to help users discover and buy products. It can understand context and remember a shopper’s preferences and needs throughout a conversation, providing real-time guidance on product details, sizing, availability, shipping, and completing purchases.

TikTok is also introducing one-click checkout, allowing users to purchase products directly from brands without leaving the For You feed, the platform’s main personalized video stream.

Together, the features could help TikTok capture more of the shopping journey within its app — from product discovery and research to purchase. Instead of watching a video, leaving the platform to search for information, and then returning to buy, users can now ask questions and complete a purchase in the same experience.

The move also puts TikTok in greater competition with AI-powered shopping tools from companies such as OpenAI, as social platforms increasingly look to make AI a part of the online shopping experience.

TikTok says the new capabilities are being developed with commerce and payment partners including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe.

The launch also expands TikTok’s e-commerce strategy beyond TikTok Shop, its dedicated marketplace. Shopping tools are now being integrated more directly into the broader TikTok experience, particularly the For You feed, where product discovery often happens organically.

TikTok’s growing influence on shopping is helping drive this expansion. According to the company’s latest Economic Impact Report, activity on TikTok contributed $81 billion to U.S. business GDP, while 54 million Americans said they had purchased a product after seeing it in a TikTok video.

TikTok Shop launched in the U.S. in September 2023. Research firm eMarketer estimates that it generated approximately $15.8 billion in U.S. sales in 2025, accounting for about 18% of U.S. social commerce.

With AI assistance and one-click purchasing, TikTok is increasingly turning its video feed into an end-to-end shopping destination — where users can discover, ask, decide, and buy without leaving the app.
