OpenAI is making ChatGPT even more accessible by removing limits on text-based conversations for all users, following the platform surpassing 1 billion weekly users.

 

Free and Go users will be upgraded to the new GPT-5.6 Luna model as the default experience and will receive a new "Think" button for more advanced reasoning on complex questions. Limits will still apply to files, images, voice, and image generation.

 

Plus and Pro subscribers will gain access to GPT-5.6 Sol, an enhanced model optimized for faster, higher-quality responses across research, writing, planning, decision-making, and web queries. They will also get a thinking slider, allowing them to control how much reasoning the model applies to each response.

 

According to OpenAI, internal testing shows GPT-5.6 Luna reduces factual errors by 62%, while GPT-5.6 Sol reduces them by 68% compared to GPT-5.5-Instant.

 

The upgraded GPT-5.6 Sol is available to Plus and Pro users now, while Free and Go users will receive GPT-5.6 Luna, the Think button, and unlimited text chats over the coming week.
