AI and ML in healthcare- Hype versus Reality

Abstract

Healthcare is a target rich industry for the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). With mounting cost pressures, shortage of physicians and nurses, increasing healthcare consumerism and emerging technologies the potential to apply AI in the healthcare industry is immense. Variety of reasons have hindered the robust adoption of AI capabilities in healthcare including, fragmented nature of the healthcare industry, tight regulations around patient privacy, siloed legacy systems and lack of evangelization of opportunity centric AI solutions. The quadruple aim goals of healthcare – cost, quality, access and clinician satisfaction provide a good starting point for targeted applications of AI.
