Challenges of IoT Product Development

It is always hard to make a great new product, finding the right problem to solve, the right customer need to fill, how to go to market, how to test and iterate without spending a lot of time or money. All of those challenges face every new product development team, but in IoT we have even more challenges to overcome, and we don't even know them all yet. Come explore some of the challenges overcome and lessons learned from years of IoT product development and help to define a new way of creating products for an IoT enabled world.

Ryan was the CEO & Founder of Denver based parking technology company, Parkifi, which was recently acquired by DISH Network. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and is an avid skier, golfer, traveler and entrepreneur. Ryan has a passion for finding solutions to the challenges people face on a daily basis. Using the new technologies available in the IoT space to solve some of these challenges is his current focus and mission. Ryan started his career as a software engineer and quickly discovered that product development and entrepreneurship were his true passions. He has been in the software and technology space since his days at Syracuse University. While working as an engineer and business consultant in his early career Ryan learned how to use his engineering background to build great products and teams. He used that knowledge to build out the project management discipline in the developer division of his next job at Microsoft. During his time at Microsoft, he realized his true passion was for new product development and creating things from the ground up. He has worked for Fortune 100 companies and startups, but his heart is in the startup and product development world where he can make a difference every day. He has spent the last 10 years solving large scale engineering challenges across multiple industries. Most recently he worked at SendGrid, which he left early in 2014 to start Parkifi. Ryan is committed to bring Parkifi’s simplified parking solution to cities across the globe, making life easier for consumers, private lot operators and municipalities. With the acquisition of his most recent company Parkifi by DISH Network his is now back to focusing on building new products and teams. Ryan is a Vice President at DISH Network overseeing the Parkifi team and the development and partnership of new IoT applications on the upcoming DISH IoT wireless network.
