Profile

Dr. Ereth’s career has been marked by innovation and collaboration. He founded and directed a multidisciplinary research group at Mayo Clinic whose primary purpose is to reduce hematostatic perturbations associated with high blood loss surgery. This multi-modal approach has included the development of assays of platelet function, drug level assays, bio-friendly coatings for cardiopulmonary bypass circuits, topical hemostatic agents, and sophisticated laboratory guided transfusion algorithms. Dr. Ereth also conceived, designed, and executed Mayo's Comprehensive Patient Blood Management program. This program reduced transfusion for cardiac surgery by 50% and reduced transfusion related expenditures in excess of twenty-five millions dollars. As an inventor he holds patents for four medical devices. He also founded TransFuse the meeting "The Transformative Fusion of Innovative Patient Blood Management" and wrote and produced TransFuse the iPad and iPhone apps. In his 25 years at Mayo he provided anesthesia and critical care to over 10,000 patients and authored more than one hundred peer reviewed journal articles and abstracts. Upon retirement from Mayo Clinic he founded Transfuse Solutions, Inc. and Apri Health, Inc, award winning healthcare analytics firms. Dr. Ereth’s work here focuses on novel-solutions to common problems solving patient safety and over-utilization issues. Mark also co-founded Cheetah Development, a non-profit based on a novel method of funding, Micro-Venture Capital. Cheetah is finding, funding, and mentoring entrepreneurs in rural Tanzania, creating whole new economies. In his spare time he and his family raise Christmas Trees and Honey Bees.
