Abstract

AI, big data and cloud computing holds great promise for healthcare, however, existing AI healthcare application focus on drug discovery, diagnosis or patient monitor, leaving clinical medicine untouched. In this talk, Dr Fangde Liu from Imperial College London will discuss their research on autonomous surgery and pharmacovigilance work which has been deployed or evaluated in clinical. Besides application, Dr Liu will also discuss their strategy making AI and big data cooperative with clinical practitioners.

Profile

Dr Fangde Liu, is UK national exceptional talent, senior associate of royal society of medicine, member of British Machine Vision Society. He is an expert in Data Science, Robotics and Surgery. His research focusing on medical image informatics, computer/robotic aided surgery and gpu high performance computing and graphics. He currently working at the Data Science Institute of Imperial College London, managing the Optimise-MS project, which is big data based effectiveness and pharmacovigilance system deployed at several major UK hospitals, belgium and even poland, becoming the foundation technology for the national registry of neurology at several european countries. Earlier he works on surgical robots also at Imperial college building the image guided autonomous surgery navigation system, which is the core technology of several european flagship surgical robot search project for endovascular surgery, neurosurgery and orthopaedics. Dr Liu is experienced and has great insight applying technology in medicine. He works closely with many world top clinicians and industry research group. He is official consultant of Imperial College and have given talk on clinical application of AI to the company leaders of industry giants such as IBM Watson, Huawei Research, NEC research and Samsung Electronics.
