Interview with Dmitry Barinov, CTO, SecureKey - Speaker at 6th Annual Global Big Data Conf - Aug 2018 - SCA Posted on : Jul 13 - 2018

We feature speakers at 6th Annual Global Big Data Conference - 2018 Aug 28 - 30 – Santa Clara to catch up and find out what he or she is working on now and what's coming next. This week we're talking to Dmitry Barinov, CTO, SecureKey Topic - "Identity Data Exchanges Leveraging Blockchain Technology"

Interview with Dmitry Barinov

1. Tell us about yourself and your background.

My name is Dmitry Barinov, and I am a CTO of  SecureKey. My focus is on development of global identity ecosystems that allow citizens to share their data efficiently and privately with data consumers of their choice. Throughout my career I have been working on solving security and data problems.

2. What have you been working on recently?

In the last few years we have been working on creation of the efficient and private identity ecosystem based on the decentralized and distributed architecture.

3. Tell me about the right tool you used recently to solve customer problem?

To implement the privacy enhanced data transfer mechanism that would keep immutable proofs of the transactions, we have made a decision to rely on Hyperledger Fabric code.

4. Where are we now today in terms of the state of Blockchain, and where do you think we’ll go over the next five years?

Blockchain can be used as an efficient tool to solve a number, but not all, of problems in the data industry.  Most efficient implementations are in its infancy now, but will be getting to market and rapidly maturing in the next 5 years.

5. You’ve already hired Y number of  people approximately. What would be your pitch to folks out there to join your Organization? Why does your organization matter in the world?

We are doing something new in the industry – building a decentralized identity system that puts users in control of their data and provides trust and security to the Data Consumers and Data Providers.  We have great partners and using a really cool and innovative decentralized technology.

6. What are some of the best takeaways that the attendees can have from your talk?

Global Identity ecosystems require privacy and security controls that have to be decentralized.  Modern technologies such as Hyperledger Fabric offer tools to build such solutions.  We will be showing first implementations of these and discussing challenges and success we have encountered.

7. What are the top 5 Blockchain Use cases in enterprises?

1. Payment.
2. Identity.
3. Data Transfer.
4. Auditability.
5. Content tracking.

8. Which company do you think is winning the global Blockchain race?

This is too early to say. There are a number of players in the field.  And there are many use cases which do not intersect – for example crypto-currency applications do not offer solutions for tracking “origin of goods” problem.  At the end, we envision that there will be several leading platforms, that will be interoperable, and Solution Providers will build flexible and market-oriented applications based on these platforms.

9. Any closing remarks

The distributed applications and distributed data transfers are developing rapidly, allowing many entrants to test their ideas and technologies.  Time will tell whose ideas fit the markets best.  We strongly believe in identity use cases implemented on decentralized infrastructures and welcome any feedback on the discussed solutions.
