       Interview with David Vijan

      1. Tell us about yourself and your background.

I am a compliance professional with over 10 years of providing compliance guidance and building compliance programs for Federally Regulated Financial Intuitions. My expertise includes anti money laundering (AML), counter terrorist financing (CTF), Fraud, Privacy and Legislative Compliance Management (LCM).

Currently, I am one of the partners at Outlier Compliance Group (Outlier). We are a consulting firm that offers anti-money laundering (AML) and counter terrorist financing (CTF) solutions for reporting entities in Canada and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and AML solutions for reporting entities in the United States.

2. What have you been working on recently?

As of lately, we have been working with clients, entering into the crypto space, by developing AML and CTF policies and procedures for them.

 3. Tell me about the right tool you used recently to solve customer problem?

We have had a chance to test out some pretty cool tools related to fraud and customer identification. While they may not solve for AML and CTF identification/KYC requirements alone they help our clients manage fraud risk a little bit easier which is a problem for some crypto Companies.

 4. Where are we now today in terms of the state of Blockchain, and where do you think we’ll go over the next five years?

I think the blockchain space is starting to see practical use cases being put into motion now. I think this will continue over the next five years but there will be stronger collaboration and hopefully more open source.

 5. You’ve already hired Y number of people approximately. What would be your pitch to folks out there to join your Organization? Why does your organization matter in the world?

Outlier currently is made up of 5 compliance experts.  I am the newest addition on the Canadian side of the house. Outlier looks for individuals with deep regulatory knowledge and years of experience. If you have a passion for the crypto space or technology in general, and are a true compliance nerd at heart you would probably be a good fit. Outlier seeks to make a difference by helping MSBs, Jewellers, Crypto Companies and others conduct their business in a transparent and compliant manner. We believe good compliance is good business.

 6. What are some of the best takeaways that the attendees can have from your talk?

Attendees will walk away with a high-level understanding of the key differences between Canadian and US legislative landscape as it pertains to crypto, as well as an understanding of the disconnect and tension that exist today between regulators, banks, and players in the crypto space.

 7. What are the top 5 Blockchain Use cases in enterprises?

5 uses cases in no particular order:

 1.           Supply chain

2.            HealthCare

3.            Payments

4.            Customer Identity

5.            Wills and Inheritance

Note: Privacy and personal information needs to be considered with these and a lot of other use cases.

8.Which company do you think is winning the global Blockchain race?

That’s a tough one.  I think there are some great companies out there and some maybe not so great. If a company is solving a real-world issue that     exist today, they are ahead of the game.

 9.Any closing remarks

I am very excited to have a chance to speak and meet some great people working in all different facets of big data.
