Interview with Tirthankar Barari

1. Tell us about yourself and your background.
I am currently a Data Solution Architect at Microsoft, helping Enterprises leverage Big Data, Advanced Analytics and AI solutions to drive more successful business impact. As an experienced technologist, over the past 3 decades, I have built software products, services, solutions while creating high performance teams and scalable architectures.

2.  What have you been working on recently?
Over the past year, I have been helping large Enterprises explore, understand and adopt Data Analytics and AI technologies in Microsoft Azure and Partner/ISV offerings to solve complex business challenges. I am leading architectural design, brainstorming solutions, implementing POC/Pilot across Azure and Marketplace solutions.

3. Tell me about the different tools you used recently to solve customer problem?
I am working on multiple initiatives in Azure Databases & Data Warehouse (migrations and cloud native), Data Catalog, CosmosDB, HDInsight, R, Python, Machine Learning, CNTK, Chatbot, Blockchain, Cognitive Services and other similar technologies.

4. Where are we now today in terms of the state of Data Science, and where do you think we’ll go over the next five years?
Data Science has been there for quite some time. But the recent availability of cloud based tools has made it viable for industry verticals to adopt it to get better insights and make more effective business decisions at a much faster pace with minimal cost. One impediment at present is shortage of skilled personnel and automated tools to operationalize these services. In the near future, tools will get smarter and interact more naturally to reach out to a bigger subset of human population.

5. Why does your organization matter in the world?
Because our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.

6. What are some of the best takeaways that the attendees can have from your "Diverse architectures to run your R code on single machine to widely distributed PaaS environments  " talk?
They will learn about the many different architectures using R and apply these to implement the right solution.
