Leveraging Generated, Collected, Purchased, and Exchanged Data for Decision Advantage

Abstract

Organizations are becoming data-animated, increasingly using insights derived from data as the backbone of their decision making, operations, and governance.  But where does this data come from?

Several sources for data are emerging:

  • Generated data results from the basic operations of a company - such as transactions, equipment diagnostic reporting, movement of vehicles.
  • Collected data is that which organizations must recognize as a need and invest resources to source on their own.
  • Purchased data is data leveraged from public data sources.

Additionally, organizations exchange services for data. The technology sector provides the most visible example of this, as consumers trade data for services, but this model is extending into other industries. This exchange of data for services isn’t restricted to consumer-corporation relationships – it's emerging between enterprises as well.

Descartes Labs, the predictive intelligence company, deals with some of the world’s most unstructured data – satellite imagery – and combines it with customer data to provide unique decision advantage. By collecting 15 TB of data daily, the company has created the world’s largest and most diverse data refinery, helping businesses get to solutions quicker.

This presentation will discuss the needed catalysts to enable organizations to leverage multiple datasets for decision advantage.  Through automated data centralization, preparation, fusion, and analysis organizations can make optimal decisions faster.
