Preparing for the Future - What Will AI Look Like On Our Roads?

Abstract

The most familiar use case for AI is autonomous cars, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. How can we use AI to make infrastructure smarter and safer? How can AI help move goods? And how can we help autonomous cars interact with their environments in ways that benefit all of us on - and even off - the roads?

Profile

Catherine McCullough is Founder and Executive Director of the Intelligent Car Coalition, a group of autonomous and connected car industry leaders. Catherine also advises established and start-up IoT companies that want to understand the marketplace implications of their regulatory exposure, and non-tech companies that want to understand how emerging technologies will impact their businesses. In 2012 Catherine saw that the diverse auto, tech and telecommunications industries would converge and transform transportation. She began talking about the societal benefits of autonomous vehicles and built the ICC to help guide members through newly emerging regulatory territory. Over the next five years she created and executed strategies that shaped the marketplace into one that welcomes life-saving innovations. Catherine is sought after by media and top industry conferences to speak on complex issues at the heart of autonomous and connected car business models such as advanced communications, data use, privacy, cybersecurity, and autonomous vehicle policy. Catherine was raised in Washington and has spent the last 27 years working in rooms where decisions are made. Recently Catherine has brought her leadership and governance experience to roles serving as a member of the Steering Committee of Road to Zero, a group of government and private stakeholders intent on eliminating road deaths; as a mentor to start-ups at SXSW 2018; and on the Advisory Board of Gastropod, the award-winning podcast. Prior to building and operating the ICC, Catherine led teams to resolve critical issues for corporate clients as a government affairs consultant. Before that, she served as a Counsel for the powerful U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation working on issues shaping the tech, auto, insurance, and consumer product industries. Catherine is an attorney and also holds degrees in Journalism and Political Science.
